Fayette's 150th birthday celebration

My little tiny home town of Fayette, Utah turned 150 years old this year.  Fayette always has a celebration for the 24th of July, but since it was a special year this year, they went all out.  It was a party all day.  Lots of people, like me, who grew up there, but no longer live there, came.  It was great to see so many people.  The day started out with a 5k.  Everyone in my immediate family participated except Michelle.  Kaitlin, Jared, and I ran, and Dave, Heather, and Luke walked.  After the 5K the scouts served everyone breakfast.  It was yummy.
Next came the parade.  There were a lot more entries than normal.  Mater from the movie "Cars" came to the parade.
The John Bartholomew family had a float, too.  It was a big birthday cake with Jared jumping out of it saying, "Happy Birthday, Fayette".

Running races have been a tradition in Fayette for a very long time.  I used to run in them when I was little (and that was a long time ago).  The prize is still the same.  Everyone gets cracker jacks when they are done.  The winner also got a quarter.
There were tons of competitions after the parade.  This is the watermelon-eating contest.  Jared and Heather both participated.  Heather didn't win, but she did beat her brother, Jared.   Every time anyone participated in any activity during the day, they got a ticket to enter in the drawing at the end of the day.  So, my kids participated in a lot of activities.

 The Bubble blowing contest.
 Some of the onlookers.
Luke takes a break to eat his popcorn.  They had free popcorn and cotton candy for anyone that wanted some.
The hoola-hoop contest.  Kaitlin and another girl went for so long, that they finally called the competition a tie and let them both win.
Kaitlin got a sucker for winning the hoola-hoop contest.
 The jump rope contest.
 More onlookers.
They had free snow cones, too.  I was recruited to help for a little while.
 Jared throwing the tomahawk.
 Luke shooting the gun.
Atleast one tomahawk hit its target.
There was also face painting.  Michelle shows her kitten on her face.
Of course the playground at the city hall is always a great place to play.  The kids play on the playground while Dave and I wait in line for lunch (Which was also free).
Michelle slides down the inflatable slide.
Still more competitions.  Heather is trying her hand at hammering a nail.
 Jared doing leg wrestling.
And then, after partying so hard, some of us took a break at Grandma and Grandpa's house.  It was a beautiful day.
Tracie got Michelle to fall asleep.
They also served dinner in the evening and had a program after.  Here they had the drawings.  One person from our family won.  Of course, it was Heather.  She always wins.  She got a little piggy bank that already had some money in it.  We had to head home after that, but they also had fireworks.  I have never known there to be fireworks in Fayette, so you know that it is a big celebration when they have fireworks.  Happy Birthday, Fayette!  I love that little town.  It was a great place to grow up and a great place to take my kids to visit.
