Adam's Canyon
We decided to kick off the 4th of July weekend with a hike up Adam's Canyon in Layton. It's about a 3-3.5 mile hike round trip, but there is a lot of climbing over rocks and in the water. So, the Saturday before the Fourth, off we went.
The group before we started. Everyone is ready to go with their water bottles and shades.
The first part of the hike isn't too exciting and is the steepest part. It's really hot, because there is not much shade.
Pretty wild flowers along the way.
Break time. Now we found some shade.
It's a really pretty hike.
Beautiful Kaitlin is still smiling. That must be a good sign.
Because the Spring was so wet, the river is still very full. There were parts of the trail that are not normally in water, but were when we went there.
Mom and the girls.
Jared, Heather, Kaitlin, and Luke.
This happened quite a bit. There were parts of the trail that were hard for Michelle, so her awesome Dad picked her up and carried her.
Slippery rocks.
This was the best part of the trail. We had to cross the river holding onto a rope for support. The water wasn't very deep, but it was cold. The kids loved getting their feet wet.
I worried about how Luke would do, but he loved it and did a great job.
We had two different people take a family picture. The first guy thought he was taking pictures, but after he left we looked at the pictures he took, and there were none. He didn't take any. So, we found another girl to do it. She took pictures, but we wanted her to get one with the waterfall in the background. Oh, well, it's still a cute family.
Jared by the waterfall. The waterfall isn't normally this big in July, but because of the heavy Spring runoff, it was pretty full.
Taking a break by the waterfall.
Dave helping Michelle on the way down. We chose to go up on the rocks instead of down below right here, because on the way up, a guy coming down had to stop Heather, Jared, and Kaitlin from almost running into a rattle snake. The guy scared it away, but we still took the upper route to be safe.
The cool bridge on part of the trail. When you hit the bridge, you know you are almost there. The kids did great and we all had a lot of fun. We were tired when we got back,
though.
